When you first move abroad, you might think that having a fast local internet connection means everything online will work smoothly.
But after living overseas for a while, you may notice that fast internet and a smooth connection to Chinese online services are two different things.
You might experience slow loading when visiting Chinese websites, regional restrictions when watching videos, unavailable music content, or higher latency when playing games on Chinese servers.
None of these problems may seem particularly serious on their own. However, when you regularly rely on Chinese apps and services while living abroad, they can become surprisingly frustrating.
For me, the main question eventually became simple: Is there an easy way to improve my connection when accessing services in China?
Why Can Accessing Chinese Services Be Difficult Overseas?
One of the main reasons is the physical distance between your location and the servers you're trying to reach.
When you're overseas and connect directly to a server in China, your data has to travel across international networks. The longer the route, the more network nodes and routing conditions can affect the connection.
During peak hours, you may even find that your local broadband speed is still quite good, while Chinese websites or applications feel noticeably slower.
There is another factor as well: some Chinese platforms may provide different content or services depending on the user's region.
That's why I think solving overseas connectivity issues isn't simply about having a faster broadband package. The quality of the route to the destination server can matter just as much.
The Solution I Eventually Tried: A China-Optimized Connection
After trying different approaches, I found it more practical to use a simple setup:
Use my regular local connection for everyday internet access, and switch to a China-optimized connection only when I need to access Chinese services.
This approach feels more flexible because I don't need to change my entire network setup.

When playing games hosted on Chinese servers, the biggest problem isn't always whether the game can launch. Latency and connection stability are often more important.
For real-time competitive games, sudden latency spikes or packet loss can have a significant impact on the experience.
If the game server is located in China, using a more suitable route may provide a better connection than simply connecting directly from overseas.

My Experience With SpeedX
