Crossroads Bait and Tackle Fish Report > memorial day weekend
memorial day weekend

May 28, 2010

Cod and Haddock- The spawn season has started and we are seeing some monster cod coming in off of Whale Back(aka Long Ledge) and out of the mud hole. Jigs with blue teasers worked very well for us the other day. We didn't get any Haddock but heard reports they are very strong out at Jeffries on Fresh clams. In close you will probably see more cod but make a longer trip for the Haddock. The Fishing seemed to slow down around mid day like normal so try to get an early start.

Stripers- The Striped Bass are hot and heavy right now. Low Tide out at Plum Island has produced alot of keepers for the surf fisherman. This week the Point Jude Pojee sandeel imitation hit very well and so did clams and seaworms. The Mackeral are in very heavy for the boat guys and they are showing up at speckled apron and breaking rock consistantly. They are thick right now so getting live bait shouldn't be a problem. If the mouth of the Merrimac is packed this weekend try getting out a little and we have had some good reports from right on three sisters with short leads of 3 to 5ft flourocarbon.

Tuna- rememeber the tuna regs are probably gonna change in 2 weeks only allowing recreational guys to keep one fish 59inches and below so if you want to keep some of those bigger 60-65 inch Bluefin tuna then try to get one soon. The reports have started but mostly sightings cause people are still getting rigged up and most of these fish are coming from Cape Cod Bay.

Good Luck and be safe this weekend the River has already claimed 3 lives this season don't be the fourth.
