Crossroads Bait and Tackle Fish Report > Finally some decent Stripers
Finally some decent Stripers

May 15, 2011

The stripers have finally started showing up with some consistency. Earlier this week there was some random reports of luck, however within the last couple days there are more reports and some of these reports are showing a little bit of size. Nothing huge but two customers have reported catching a keeper. One of em was on chunk herring while the other was an artificial storm shad. both were caught in the Merrimac River near Deer Island.

Normally this time of year I am reporting on how they are hammering the Cod off of Long Ledge(aka whaleback) and the surrounding areas, however since those areas are closed to all groundfishing we have seen hit and miss fishing further out. Tillies has had some huge day producing a lot of haddock on bait. The Cove has started to heat up a little too. Haddock rigs with bait and Oozy Jigs have been working really well. The Jigs seem to be having the best luck when flavored with Herring Bio-Edge. I will be out fishing in the rain today for some stripers. I'll keep everyone posted as to how we do.
