Fish Don't Mind the Rain

May 25, 2013

Striper fishing is in full swing, and very productive in the Merrimack River out to the mouth and the beachfront. Mackerel have now shown up in full force as well, coincidence, I don' tthink so. I fished near Carr Island and out on Joppa flatts earlier this week and we boated over 30 stripers between two people. Most of the action came from finding the birds working on the edge of Joppa and casting in to them. A lot of action but a lot of small stripers. Yesterday we went out to Speckled Apron and loaded up on Macks then came back to the mouth for fewer fish but better size than what Ive been seeing in the river. I also got a good reports from anglers surf fishing by the party boats on Plum Island up to the sand bar. Clams or mackerel colored Fin'S split tails with a jig head have been hot off Plum Island. Save the shiny metals for less gloomy days. The fish don't care that it's raining and neither should you, rain or shine its a short season and since the weather has scared many of you guys off the water I'm putting on the wet weather gear and going fishing.
