Crossroads Bait and Tackle Fish Report > Pogies have arrived
Pogies have arrived

Jun 24, 2016

The fishery is healthy and there is a lot of life, bait and action out there. Pogey snags are moving and at first light over by the Plum Island sand bar Ive gotten multiple reports of boiling pogeys. There have been some big fish under them and the late upriver stripers from the damn are starting to push down river with the warming water temps. Mackerel are very productive out in the open water near speckled apron and a few balloon fish are being caught out on the 3 mile line but not super heavy yet.

I was out ground fishing the other day and had a tough time getting away from nice cod. normally I would have loved to find some good cod action, however with the regs I was moving around trying to find more haddock, only to drop and catch cod very quickly. Other guys have found the pockets of haddock but the cod definitely are making a strong comeback.

The stick boats have been bringing some tuna to the docks and a few have come in off rod and reel. A lot of the action is coming from a ways away and Platts has been hot. Good Luck
