India does not have one official language on a national level. It has two languages as official languages at the level of central government:
1.Hindi (in Devanagari script)
2.English (used for official communication)
India also recognizes 22 languages that are listed in the 8th Schedule, and which are used by different states to serve official purposes. In India, each state can have their own official languages according to regional preferences.
Here is a list of the 22 scheduled languages of India as per the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution:
Assamese Bengali Bodo Dogri Gujarati Hindi Kannada Kashmiri Konkani Maithili Malayalam Manipuri Marathi Nepali Odia Punjabi Sanskrit Santali Sindhi Tamil Telugu Urdu
