Step 1: Create your free ringtone (on computer)
To begin, you must have an audio file you want to turn into a ringtone. The ringtone must be in .m4r format and must be no longer than 30 seconds.
Use iTunes or the Music app: Open iTunes (or the Music app if you're using a newer Mac) and import your audio file.
Set the start and end points: Right-click the song, select "Song Info," then go to the "Options" tab. Check the "Start" and "End" boxes and set a duration of up to 30 seconds.
Convert the file: Right-click the song and select "File" > "Convert" > "Create AAC Version." This will create a 30-second version of the song.
Change the file extension: Locate the AAC (.m4a) file on your computer. Rename it from .m4a to .m4r.
Step 2: Transfer the ringtone to your iPhone
