A nano reef is beautiful but limited in space, which makes fish stocking tricky. Overloading a 40 gallon tank or smaller with saltwater aquarium fish will cause stress, nutrient spikes, and unstable reef tank pH. Keep your fish load light and rely on live rock and a protein skimmer for natural filtration. Frequent aquarium water changes are vital to maintain reef tank stability in a small fish tank. Use a reliable reef tank app to track water parameters and avoid crashes caused by overcrowding.
