Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time reading what’s supposed to be “news,” but most of it feels surface-level. It’s like real investigative reporting has taken a backseat to quick takes and SEO-driven headlines. I stumbled across this site and it got me thinking about what actually counts as in-depth journalism these days.
When I think of in-depth journalism, I think of long-form stories that take time to research, verify, and challenge what’s presented to the public. Those stories used to shape opinions and even policies. Now, it feels like we’re drowning in short articles that repeat the same info from one outlet to another.
Do you think in-depth journalism still exists in a meaningful way, or has it been replaced by opinion pieces and clickbait? I’d love to hear if anyone still follows journalists or outlets that genuinely dig into the truth instead of rushing to publish first.
What do you all think — is real investigative journalism still out there, or are we just nostalgic for a time that’s gone?
