The Tibet travel permit is an official document issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. It allows foreign travelers to enter and travel within most parts of Tibet. Without this permit, airlines, train authorities, and security checkpoints will deny entry.

Why Is the Tibet Travel Permit Required?

Tibet is a sensitive and protected region with unique cultural and environmental conditions. The permit system helps authorities:

Manage tourism sustainably

Ensure traveler safety

Preserve Tibetan culture and heritage

Every foreign traveler must comply with this regulation.

Who Needs a Tibet Travel Permit?

All foreign passport holders

Travelers entering Tibet from mainland China

Tourists visiting Lhasa or any other area in Tibet

Exceptions:

Chinese citizens do not need a TTP

Hong Kong and Macau residents need special documents, not a TTP
