Fildena is a medication containing sildenafil citrate, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). One of the possible side effects some men experience is hot flashes or a feeling of warmth, and this is usually linked to how the drug affects blood vessels.

Why hot flashes may occur

The main reason is vasodilation, which is the widening of blood vessels caused by sildenafil. FILDENA works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, increasing levels of cyclic GMP (cGMP). This relaxes smooth muscles in blood vessel walls and improves blood flow to the penis. However, this same effect can also happen in other parts of the body.

When blood vessels near the skin surface widen, more blood flows through them, creating a sensation of warmth, flushing, or hot flashes, especially in the face, neck, and chest. This is a common and generally harmless reaction.

Other contributing factors

Increased blood circulation during sexual arousal

Alcohol intake, which can intensify flushing

Higher doses of sildenafil, which increase vasodilation effects

When to be cautious

Hot flashes are usually mild and temporary, but if they occur with chest pain, severe dizziness, or irregular heartbeat, medical attention is needed immediately.

Fildena may cause hot flashes mainly due to widening of blood vessels and increased blood flow near the skin, which leads to a warm or flushed feeling. It is typically a mild side effect but should be monitored if severe or persistent.
