Does Amtrak allow vehicle transport if I’m not a passenger on the same train? I’m moving my SUV but prefer to fly. If not, what’s the best alternative for safe, rail-based shipping in the US?

Unfortunately, Amtrak requires you to be a passenger on the same train to ship your vehicle; they don't offer standalone freight services for cars. If you prefer to fly, you'll need to look into private rail logistics or a standard car carrier. This Amtrak car shipping guide is great for understanding these specific rules. While rail is incredibly safe, most people find that an open-air truck carrier is the more flexible and cost-effective alternative if they aren't planning to ride the rails themselves!
