LSG Crush CSK by 7 Wickets as Mitchell Marsh’s 90 Puts Chennai’s Playoff Hopes in Serious Danger
Chennai Super Kings suffered a massive setback in the Indian Premier League 2026 after a crushing seven-wicket defeat to Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
CSK posted a competitive 187/5, and at one stage that total looked good enough. But Mitchell Marsh had other ideas. The Australian all-rounder produced one of the most destructive innings of the season, smashing 90 off just 38 balls and taking the game away from Chennai in the powerplay itself.
Lucknow chased down the target in only 16.4 overs, making CSK’s bowling attack look completely helpless.
CSK Bat First and Put Up a Strong Total
After losing the toss, Chennai Super Kings were asked to bat first.
The innings began cautiously, but young Kartik Sharma played a brilliant knock and gave CSK the momentum they needed. His attacking approach in the middle overs ensured Chennai crossed the 180-run mark.
Ruturaj Gaikwad also looked composed, while Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube chipped in with useful contributions.

For Lucknow, Akash Singh stood out with the ball.

With 24 runs needed from four overs, Pooran decided not to waste any time.
He smashed Anshul Kamboj for four consecutive sixes to seal the chase in dramatic fashion.
Pooran remained unbeaten and completed a statement finish that underlined Lucknow’s dominance.
Nightmare Outing for Anshul Kamboj
Anshul Kamboj endured one of the toughest spells by a CSK bowler in IPL history.
His figures read 0/63 in just 2.4 overs.
He was hit for eight sixes, equalling the record for most sixes conceded by a bowler in a single IPL innings.
It was a night he will want to forget quickly.
What This Means for CSK
This defeat leaves Chennai Super Kings in a very difficult position.
Their playoff equation is now simple.
CSK must win both of their remaining matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.
Any slip-up will end their campaign.
The good news for Chennai is that their batting finally looks more settled. The concern is whether the bowling unit can bounce back after such a heavy defeat.
What This Means for LSG
Lucknow Super Giants are already out of the playoff race, but this performance showed what the team is capable of.
The opening partnership of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis looked extremely dangerous, and Pooran’s finishing was as explosive as ever.
For LSG, this win was about pride and finishing the season strongly.

Chennai Super Kings did not play badly. In many matches, 187 would be enough.
But Mitchell Marsh produced an extraordinary innings that completely changed the contest.
