The T20 Blast 2026 season is already throwing up entertaining games, and the clash between Warwickshire and Somerset at Edgbaston turned into one of those matches where momentum kept changing every few overs.

Beau Webster Keeps the Middle Overs Moving
After Yates departed, Beau Webster took over responsibility in the middle phase. Sometimes in T20 cricket, middle overs can become slow and messy, but Webster handled it smartly.
He rotated strike well, picked the loose deliveries, and didn’t allow Somerset to completely settle.
His partnership with Sam Hain quietly became very important. Not flashy at first. Just smart batting.
Webster scored 41 from 30 balls with four boundaries and a six before Jake Ball picked up another wicket. Somerset probably felt they had a chance to fully pull things back there.
But that did not happen.
Sam Hain Changes Gear at the Right Time
For most of the innings, Sam Hain looked patient. He wasn’t forcing shots too early. That actually helped Warwickshire later because he stayed till the death overs.
And once the final few overs arrived, everything changed quickly.
Lewis Goldsworthy went for a six. Lewis Gregory disappeared for another big over. Daniel Sams then got hit for back to back sixes by Hain, and suddenly Somerset were scrambling for answers.
This was probably the most important phase of the innings.
Hain’s timing looked effortless near the end. He finished with 52 off 35 balls, and it never felt like a rushed innings. He built it properly and accelerated exactly when Warwickshire needed it.
That is what made the knock valuable.
Not just the runs. The timing of those runs.
Ed Barnard’s Quick Cameo Hurt Somerset
While Hain anchored the innings, Ed Barnard played the role every T20 side wants late in the innings.
Come in. Swing hard. Change the momentum.
And he actually did it perfectly for a short spell.

Somerset Bowlers Had Mixed Moments
Craig Overton picked up important wickets and at times looked dangerous with the new ball, but he also leaked runs during the death overs.
Jake Ball had a similar outing. He removed key batters including Webster and Hain, but Warwickshire still managed to score freely during important phases.
Lewis Gregory did well breaking partnerships, though Somerset probably would have wanted tighter execution in the final overs.
That ending slightly spoiled what had been a decent bowling effort for large parts of the innings.
Final Thoughts
This match had the exact kind of flow T20 fans enjoy.
Quick starts. Momentum swings. Middle-over recovery. Then a strong finish.
Warwickshire may not have dominated every over, but they handled key moments better. Sam Hain’s calm fifty and Barnard’s late hitting gave them a total that felt competitive immediately after the innings ended.
Somerset, meanwhile, had patches where they looked in control but could not completely stop the late acceleration.
