Wanting someone here has run into this before because I'michael stumped. Attempted foil making a small portion of leather notebook covers myself using a cheap tabletop press I acquired old, and about a next of them arrived with intermittent spots where in actuality the foil only didn't transfer at all.
Some details just in case it can help analyze:
Using a simple silver foil move, tampografia fancy or specialty
Leather is a mid-weight vegetable tanned form, nothing unique
Push temp was set based on a general information I discovered online, not anything leather-specific
Pressure thought consistent in my experience, but I'michael seriously not 100% sure I'michael knowing that precisely on a used device
The parts that worked seemed truly good, so it's not a total tragedy, just inconsistent
My most readily useful guesses today are possibly temperature, force, or possibly the leather itself having slightly inconsistent texture/oils throughout the portion, but I don't have enough knowledge to learn which can be many likely.
Questions for anybody who's foiled leather before:
Is patchy transfer frequently a temperature issue, a pressure problem, or can it genuinely function as the leather's problem?
Does leather need a substantially different temp than report or document, or could it be more about stay time?
Any solution to test/calibrate an applied push without wasting a huge amount of material?
Is this anything a specialty leather-safe foil would actually fix, or could it be much more likely a process issue on my conclusion?
Not trying to give up on doing this in-house, just seeking to find out if it's person problem before I drain more money in to materials. Any troubleshooting tips appreciated.
