This is my first time flying from Schiphol Airport, and I’m not sure how much time to allow for check-in, security screening, and walking to the gate. My friends have different opinions. Some say two hours is enough, while others insist on three. Who’s right?

I’ve also heard that this summer at Schiphol there were huge lines at security checkpoints, and people were missing their flights even though they arrived two hours early. Is this still an issue, and is there any way to speed up the security screening process—for example, a priority lane or a time of day when the lines are shorter? I want to understand the actual situation, not just the airlines’ official recommendations, which are usually too optimistic.

I live in Amsterdam and fly there several times a year. Timing is really tricky there-it depends on the season, the day of the week, and the airline. Last May, I arrived two hours early and barely made it—the line for security screening took forty-five minutes, and I had to run to get to the gate. The first few times, I checked the guide on the website https://amsterdam-ams-international-airport.com/en - there’s a separate section there that says that in the summer of 2026, they recommend arriving three hours early due to the new EES checks at the border for non-EU passengers. There is a priority lane, but it costs extra and not all airlines offer it. The quietest times to go through security are early in the morning before 6 a.m. or late at night after 9 p.m. Are you flying on a weekday or on the weekend?
