I recently completed my MBBS and have developed a strong interest in Urology. While exploring different career options, I found information about fellowships, MCh programs, and various training pathways, but I'm still confused about what is actually possible immediately after MBBS.
Can someone explain whether an MBBS graduate can directly pursue a Urology fellowship, or is completing General Surgery first the standard route? I've seen different eligibility criteria across institutes, so I'm not sure what's generally accepted. If fellowships are available after MBBS, what kind of training do they usually provide? Are they mainly theoretical, or do they include supervised clinical exposure as well?
I'm also curious about the long-term career prospects. Will pursuing a fellowship after MBBS help me build practical skills and strengthen my profile, or would it be better to first complete postgraduate training before specializing further?
I'd really appreciate advice from doctors who have followed this path or are currently working in Urology. Knowing how you planned your career, the challenges you faced, and what you would recommend to someone just starting out would be extremely helpful.
