An easy star schema example is a store that sells online products and wants to look at their sales. Order Amount, quantity, product ID, customer ID and date ID are examples of fact table columns that may be stored in the central fact table. Around it, one could have separate tables containing product information, customer information, and calendar information. The analyst could then easily compute sales by product, customer, month and/or year. The advantage is that the structure is fairly simple to comprehend and to query. Datalance can serve as valuable guidance for larger teams creating larger analytics environments in which organizing business data for reporting and analysing becomes important.
