Fall Fishing at it's Finest
Sep 29, 2012
The fall striper run is in full effect right now. If you fish in the Merrimac River you will have a ton of schooooolie action but size has been tough to come by, Unless you get yourself out to the beach front. There is a big batch of bait and fish up off Boars Head in Hampton. Clams from the shore have produced some real nice fish. Clams becomes the stripers preferrred bait when there are big surfs and rocks. They will wait for them to smash open on the rocks and eat em up so match the hatch.
The tuna bite has been between the Outside Flag and Mudhole. There has been huge bait balls of herring in these areas. Tuna are not the only ones that have been drawn towards all this bait. There has been a lot of sharks and whales in the area too. Despite all the bait the tuna are being a little shy and taking some slightly lighter leaders than is standard for most boats. We've dropped down to 150lb leaders, and gone a size smaller than normal on our hooks.
