Crossroads Bait and Tackle Fish Report > 4th Of July Weeeeekend
4th Of July Weeeeekend

Jul 6, 2013

So far this year the mackerel fishing has been very sporatic yet despite the heat wave and high air temp. they have turned on strong this week. We have been able to get them back up into the chum and keep them there, long enough to fill some sabiki rigs. The Merrimack River is still a little brown and dirty but starting to clean up however most of your action up river is dying out due to high water temps, and what action is still there has been mostly small stripers, however so far this year I have gotten more sturgeon reports than any other year up river and there has been some 5-6footers seen at the mouth of the Merrimack. Remember they are an endangered species and it is illegal to target them or even take them out of the water if you do hook one while striper fishing. Joppa still has a lot of night time action however the size has gone down a little there as well. The best fishing right now is either in the mouth about 2hrs after high tide right along the jetties or along the beach under the working birds. trolling around the birds or throwing some top water is producing a lot of fish. So far there have only been a few blue fish sightings however this is gonna increase very shortly and we should see a few more showing up this week, and quite possible make these mack's real shy again.
