Nice Fish Moving In

May 21, 2016

The striper fishing is progressing nicely and we are hearing about a lot more keepers coming in. There are still a lot of schoolies around, however your shot at a bigger fish is getting better every day. Deer Island has had non stop action on the outgoing tides, and the bite in the river has in general been very consistent. Many of the big fish are shooting straight up river for the herring run up at the Lawrence Damn. We are catching a few on the way by down in our area but the big fish will show up to feed heavier toward the Salisbury area after they run out of food way up by the damn. Right out front of the Mouth of the Merrimack River by the MR bouy I've gotten reports of Mackerel. It happened the last 2 yrs that we were able to get mackerel just outside the mouth early season and didn't have to waste the time or fuel going to Speck Apron or Breaking Rock.

The Haddock fishing continues to be very good, however at Jeffries Ledge in the Curl/Prong area try fishing a little deeper water off the Ledges between about 240'-285' of water. A lot of guys fishing up high getting into smaller fish and the guys fishing a little deeper are getting the bigger Haddock and having a higher keeper ratio. Down towards Southern Jeffs It is a flatter shallower bottom and the Haddock are very productive in about 150' of water.
