Summer Time Blues

Jul 23, 2016

There are a bunch of big bluefish around. Some drag ripping mid thirty inchers are hitting bright divers consistently up and down the beach. A lot of guys are starting around the red can just outside the mouth of the Merrimack river in about 40 feet and trolling south. The Rapala CD18 in Orange/Flour.Red diver is probably the most popular lure for the blues right now.

For some reason I keep hearing about some big Stripers upriver behind Eagle Island right next to Deer Island. Usually it's only schoolies once the river warms up but there have been a lot of 40plus inch fish and Keith Campbell showed me Pictures of his 50incher that he released up next to Eagle Island on tube and worm. There is also a consistent bite in the mouth of the river on the outgoing tide. Mackerel is working well except it can be tough to catch live bait small enough to striper fish with a lot of big mackerel around. there have been some pockets of tinkers out by Hampton Shoal Ledge.

The Tuna fishing is really starting to turn on with bites going at the Southwest Hump and Outside Flag. Schools of football tuna are showing up in the same areas. The fish seam to be up high still and there were a couple of kite baits taken down this week.
